The Book of Mormon

 So it's around 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving night 2009 and I'm blogging.

I'm not going to get on a soap box for what I'm about to say I just want to express this.

On Dec 30th 2007 in church my bishop, Max Behling, challenged the members of his congregation (ward) to read from The Book of Mormon EVERY DAY this next year... even if it was just one verse. If we did this he promised our lives would be blessed and we'd come to know that it is true and have a FIRM testimony that Jesus is the Christ. That the book was written by prophets and not Joseph Smith.*This is a good place to note that I had never read from The Book of Mormon daily even though I was raised a member of the Mormon church. Not even on my mission. I think the most I had gone was two weeks in a row or something.

So the next tuesday Jan 01 2008, I started. One verse (or more) a day til I had completed the Book of Mormon. There were literally weeks where I'd only do one verse. Sometimes a chapter but that was rare. As of Jan 01 2009 I had only made it to page 295. I had no idea when I would finish it but by this point I had read EVERY DAY for a year... no giving up.

I'm pleased to say that today I finished it.

Tomorrow I will start over and read it again... my goal is then entire book in one year and if not by next Thanksgiving New Years Day 2011.

I won't even tell you to read it. I wanted you to know that I have.

If I'm a better person it's because I'm trying to live by the teachings of the prophets found in the Book of Mormon which point me to my savior. Christ is my big bro... and like all little brothers I want to be like my big bro. He's also my redeemer. The Book of Mormon helps me to know him better.

This is what I am thankful for today.

Not much is new

So nothing is really new for me.

More rejections from girls. More flirting in the halls. Lots of the same things in school... assignments, enduring classes, having my mind blown, taking up class time explaining my life.

I did see Couples Retreat with Vince Vaughn and Jason Bateman. Last week I saw Zombie Land and loved it.

I'm giving up R rated movies and Myspace.

I watched Arrested Development on DVD and laughed SO HARD! Buster "Who would want to R her?" (while angrily referring to his mom having a rape horn)

So life is just ok and not much is new.
